MIAT Mongolian Airlines Now Officially National Flag Carrier

MIAT Mongolian Airlines received National Air Flag Carrier status according to the "Government policy on civil aviation until 2020". The official ceremony to hand over the status certificate was held on February 25, 2013 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.


When handing over the certificate, Mr. Gansukh A., The Minister of Transportation of Mongolia noted that "one of the key factors for economic development of landlocked Mongolia is air transport. Many works have been planned as a part of the government policy on civil aviation until 2020. This is just the beginning of many planned works".

According to the new government policy, Mongolia shall become a regional leader in air transportation, have the national air flag carrier and thus granting MIAT Mongolian Airlines a national status.

Airline CEO & President, Mr. Jargalsaikhan G. mentioned that the history of MIAT Mongolian Airlines is the history of the Mongolia's civil aviation development. Our company had been unofficially considered as the national air flag carrier since its establishment about 50 years ago and current official granting of national status is a big step, he noted. Having national air flag carrier is very important in joining world airline alliances, he added.

Currently, the airline operates Boeing 767-800 and Boeing 767-300 with two each in addition to planned brand new B737 and B767 aircraft. Besides regular flights from/to Berlin, Moscow, Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo, the airline also operates charter flights together with other travel agencies in Mongolia. The MIAT Mongolian Airlines was also awarded with 3 stars from Skytrax.
