Ulaanbaatar_Airport_Transit_Hall_ULNWorks for creating an international transit hall have begun in June 2015. One of the main reasons for creation of the international transit hall is to prepare for the 11th high level ASEM meeting to be hosted by Mongolia in 2016 besides serving as a hub for travelers from neighbouring countries.

The transit hall that includes arrival and departure halls, business lounge, service and resting areas occupies over 2,000 sq.m, which will increase airport’s serving capacity up to 1,200 passengers an hour compared to the current 800.

The transit hall also includes eight regular and two electronic checkpoint gates. According to the head of the airport – Badral B., all renewal works cost airport about MNT 1.9 billion, all of which were completely covered by the airport itself.

On November 18th, 2015 during the planned visit to familiarize himself with the renewal works, the Prime Minister of Mongolia – Saikhanbileg Ch. stated that “for the first time, international passengers in Mongolia are able to transit from one airplane to another through dedicated transit hall without having to cross the border”. “By promoting this capacity, we should organize transit flights between Russia’s cities such as Omsk, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, Chita and Irkutsk and other South East Asian countries”, he added.

As a part of preparatory works for ASEM meeting, additional 9 aircraft parking slots have also been introduced and all runways have been reinforced.
