A statue of Bogd Khan will be erected at Independence Square

bogd_khan_portray_photoThe Ulaanbaatar City Citizens' Representative Board discussed about the erection of a statue to the 8th Jebtsundamba Khutughtu also known as the last Bogd Khan during its regular meeting on December 20th, 2013.

The General Architect of Ulaanbaatar Natsagdorj Sh. brought the issue in front of the Board to build and erect a statue of the 8th Jebtsundamba Khutughtu at the Square of Independence in Ulaanbaatar city.

Widely respected Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutughtu VIII (1867-1924) played a significant role in the national independence revolution. In 1911, Mongols restored their independence from the newly formed Republic of China and declared reigning spiritual and political ruler the Bogd Khan of Outer Mongolia.

Historians say that Bogd Khan was the spiritual leader of Mongols during the Mongolian National Liberation Movement of 1911.

Upon discussion, the Citizens' Reppresentative Board made a decision to build and erect a statue of the 8th Jebtsundamba Khutughtu at the Square of Independence.
