mongolian_natural_history_museumA new building for the Mongolian Natural History Museum is expected to be in service by 2016. The current museum building was shut down after the Mongolian General Authority of Specialized Inspection concluded in June, 2013 that the building cannot withstand earthquake and natural disasters and must be closed.

The building built in 1953 was found at danger of collapse and, therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Mongolia made a decision to demolish and build a new building on its site jointly with the Ministry of Economic Development of Mongolia.  Funding for new building is expected to be set in 2014 government budget.

It has been reported that from August, 2013 authorities started to relocate over 10 thousand museum exhibits including worldwide famous and rare fossil dinosaurs to proper storage facilities and the relocation process will be finished within that year.
